Different Shrimp Disease and cure technique Part 02

PART: 02

In present situation in Bangladesh, most of the shrimp farmers face several shrimp disease problem. But accept WSSB or MBV, those disease are easily curable. Here I will discuss ( part: 02) different shrimp disease and how to cure those disease.

  

Protozoan or Luminance problem:

Symptom of (protozoan) luminance sp:

Ø  Shrimp could be count at night due to illumination.

Treatment:

Ø  Tok Doi 8-10 kg/Acre. ( 1^st day)

Ø  Super biotic 1kg/Acre. (2^nd or 3^rd day)

Ø  BKC (Benzalkonium chloride- (1.5 – 2 ppm)) 4L/ Acre. They are active against bacteria and some viruses, fungi, and protozoa and Bacterial spores.

Ø  Formalin 25-40 ppm. Depending on size and quantity of parasite.

 

Protozoan or Zoothamnium sp:

Ø  Its typically occurs on the gills and turns greenish in colour. In sever condition spread out all over the body.

Treatment:

Ø  CaCO₃ + Sand. Then it would be best if complete 1 dose Super PS.

Ø  BKC (Benzalkonium chloride- (1.5 – 2 ppm)) 4L/ Acre. They are active against bacteria and some viruses, fungi, and protozoa and Bacterial spores.

Ø  Treatment with a 25-40 ppm formalin dip has been effective in controlling this protozoan  (Last stage).

Ø  Raising salinity (20 ppt) can give good result.

Note:  If P^H is high, molasses should be applied to reduce P^H

Reason of Zoothamnium:

Ø    Poor water quality.

Ø  High p^H .

For quick recovering molting stage:

Ø  Calmag (Calcium and Magnesium compound) used (5-6 kg/Acre) + soda mix (Different iodine nutrient source) used (10 kg/Acre) mixed with water and then apply. We can also mix CaCO₃.

Note: P^H should be controlled position. Because soda mix increase P^H level or we can say in high p^H soda mix cannot work properly.

Broken Antennae and black carapace:

Symptom:

     Ø  Broken Antenna and black carapace.

Treatment:

     Ø  Super PS 5-6 kg/Acre

Reason:

      Ø  High P^H

Barnacles problem:

Symptom:

    Ø  Small barnacles will be attested with shrimp body shell and carapace

Treatment:

    Ø  Super PS 5-6 L/Acre.

Blue color Problem:

Symptom:

     Ø  Looks blue color on Exo-skeleton in every segment.

Treatment:

      Ø  Soda mix.

     Ø  Additional Salt (NaCl) soluble in water then mixed feed on that salt, before feeding fish.

Force Molting for rapid growth:

For force molting:

Dolomite ----------------------------------------- 25 kg/Acre

MnSO_{4----------------------------------------------------------------}   4 kg/Acre

Calmag-------------------------------------------- 5-6 kg/Acre

Formalin------------------------------------------

     Mutagen---------- (Daily only one dose) ---------------------------------------- mixed 10gm/Kg feed

Note: P^H should be controlled. Because of high P^H shrimp will not molt.

Snails Problem:

Snails (Cerithidea) compete for the natural food in a pond. Most pond operators feel that production is lower in ponds with a large number of Creeper snails. If their numbers are high, they disturb the bottom algae loosening the sediments as well as reducing the calcium content from water. Here I will discuss different technique how to eradicate snail problem in water.

                                      Creeper snail problem in shrimp pond

Technique 1:

We can used Tobacco dust at the rate of 100 kilograms per hectare.  During pond preparation, fill the pond to around 30 centimeters, apply the tobacco dust, and then let the pond stand for 24 hours.  Before stocking, drain and refill the pond. We have found it very effective for eradicating creeper snails (Cerithidea spp.)

Technique 1:

Two ways to eradicate creeper snails: tea seed powder and copper sulfate (CuSO4) at four grams per square meter.  The best way of adding copper sulfate is to add it while the water is entering the pond.  Put it in a net bag and hang it in the incoming water.  Then wait four or five days before stocking.
